Oh Butterfly…….

Filed under: Frugal Homestead, Homestead Garden, Tips from the Homestead — Lisa @ 7:14 am

I just KNOW Spring IS coming….really, I KNOW IT.  Now to look outside the window–and look at the thermometer, you’d think I was crazy….BUT, it IS APRIL….20’s and SNOW?!?!  I think I am stuck in winter. Bleh.

Well, I KNOW that eventually Spring will show up–and when it does….I’ll joyfully be watching the butterflies flit about the flowers…and here is the perfect solution (pun intended) to keep them coming back :)

Butterfly Nectar

You’ll need:

4 cups of water

1 cup granulated white sugar

Add the sugar to the water in a medium sauce pan.

Heat the mixture, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.

Cool before filling your butterfly feeder, and store any

remaining nectar in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Clean your feeder with hot water between fillings and

change the nectar at least once a week.

DO NOT use honey, syrup or any other kind of sweetener.

Happy Spring!
