Planting Potatoes!

We’ve got all the potatoes in the dirt–finally! :)

This year we are planting our spuds in old tires. Yup. I’ve read on this method, and heard about it for so long, I am trying it out this year.

We just took a sheet of old shed metal roofing (this is NOT a ‘required’ step), set it on the ground where we wanted to plant, put down a few layers of old newspaper beneath each tire, put down the tire–filled half way with dirt & compost, added in spud seed, covered with more dirt & compost and VOILA…..done….til green shoots/leaves pop up and once they get tall enough, add another tire to the stack, fill with dirt (making SURE to leave a few inches of the green leaves of the plant up above dirt each time you do this!) repeat the process til tires are apprx hip/waist high….they will just keep growing and growing within the tire stack you made for them–come late Fall, knock those tires over (that’s what we’ll do anyway) and dig all those deeeeeelicious spuds out!

Easy and fruitful (or, er …vegetable-ful–LOL)

Enjoy

Love & Learning…

The typical ’school year’ is winding down…but what have we learned? Learning and wisdom is not something that is compartmentalized into certain times ONLY….it is ongoing….always seeking…..always there for us….a gift.

I have already started hearing and seeing the ‘typical’ parental groans of society out there lamenting that ’summer vacation’ is looming…how SAD!

Children are a BLESSING, a GIFT from heaven, a JOY…REJOICE…He has blessed you if you have children!

Homeschooling is not just some oddball way to ‘do school’…it is a command….to teach, learn and grow in HIM, therefore in ALL THINGS…it is a complete ongoing lifestyle that HE himself calls us to uphold….

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Within this command is yet another blessing…GETTING to TRULY KNOW our children, spend the time, cherish the moment, skip the meeting (is the company going to really go down in flames if you aren’t at ONE meeting? Doubtful.), the dishes will wait, the laundry will wait, and while we’re at it…let’s turn off that darned cell phone….

CHILDREN don’t wait…they grow up before we know it…don’t ‘miss the opportunity He gives us…it is such a blessing…

Homeschooling is just the avenue to reclaim the family-(that is SO LOST in todays world)- that is SO much more than just math and worksheets…it’s living, each day, together, learning and life, being an example, mentor and loving parent to these children He has given us….

Summertime is an excellent time to enjoy those ‘extras’…and extra hour up late with Mom & Dad on the porch watching the stars and talking, an extra long walk in the early morning sunshine, picking flowers together, casting a line  in the river, a family picnic on the patio, a game of badmitton, make popsicles together, READ together…the list is endless! (and when you live according to God’s schedule, not man’s (i.e, the government institution of ’school’) ANYTIME is a good time for these activities with our children and so many more!!! Homeschooling allows for this….it’s all LEARNING folks, and much more so than another math drill worksheet :)

Have a wonderful Summer FULL of love and learning.

ENJOY those moments
