Hang it up to dry!

I love hanging my laundry out to dry, truth be told, I hang my laundry INDOORS too when the wet wintery weather abounds!  *gasp!*

My husband hung me a line right thru our, hm, what would this room be called? Let’s just call it our multipurpose room (aka office, sewing room, school room, family room, etc., etc., etc.!) this is the room with the wood stove in it too, so it works great to get the laundry dry in good time :)

Hanging your laundry is not only better on the clothing itself (less wear and tear than you get with a grid / system tied dryer–your clothing, etc., will last longer!) it won’t fade your laundry, in fact, when hanging on the line outdoors–the sun acts as a natural brightener, this is especially great on whites and diapers! It is (obviously) less expensive than using a grid powered machine, frugal and have the children join in the hanging–teaches them not only how to dry their clothes without the machine, but gives us another teachable moment, and time spent together–make every moment count!

I would also recommend using a 1/2 to full cup or so of vinegar in your rinsing of the laundry, as a fabric softener–whether you hand or machine wash–this really helps the laundry come out softer when you hang dry!

A lil’ frugal tip from our homestead to yours!

Homeschool Quote of the day…

Filed under: Musings from our Homestead to yours! — Lisa @ 7:05 am

“The more subsidized it is, the less free it is. What is known as “free education” is the least free of all, for it is a state-owned institution; it is socialized education – just like socialized medicine or the socialized post office – and cannot possibly be separated from political control.”

– Frank Chodorov (1887-1966), Why Free Schools Are Not Free

“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, O YHWH; teach me your decrees.”
Psalm 119:10-12
