Getting a Sourdough Starter…..started.

I’ve been wanting to get a new Sourdough Starter going for quite a while, and finally this week………(insert drumroll here) I got it going! It’s VERY SIMPLE to do– just a matter of actually doing it. So here we go……..

Gather up your supplies; flour, water a glass container and a wooden spoon or spatula!

To get our Sourdough Starter going we need a Glass container (nothing else will do), 2 cups of flour (I used 1 Cup Rye, 1 Cup White/Wheat) and 2 Cups of Water and a wooden spoon or spatula and some cheesecloth & a rubber band or ribbon.Ready?

Dump your flour into your glass container, dump your water into your glass container…stir…really well….

Day 1 : Flour & Water all mixed up

Cheesecloth....so versatile!

Once you have it mixed up cover it with a piece of cheesecloth (this can be hard to find–I get mine HERE) and tie with a ribbon, string or a nice big rubber band is handy!

Set it someplace warm for 24 hours, and come back tomorrow for the next step…….. :D Told ya this was simple!

Setting for 24 hours all toasty next to the woodstove!

Won’t be long now and we’ll have starter– yay!
