Spelling has always been a ‘natural’ to me–something that was integrated into our days and regular learning and schoolwork– a ‘no brainer’, if you will. However when one of my children didn’t seem to inherit my ‘natural’ love of spelling; I looked to
All About Spelling, after all– I had heard INCREDIBLE things about
All About Spelling from other homeschooling families (the real experts

!
In our experience I found that not only is All About Spelling great for beginning students, it is also excellent for students who require remedial help. A ‘win-win’ for our family!

All About Spelling is multisensory. The lessons involve sight, sound, and touch. We hear more and more about how children learn best when all of their senses are involved in the learning process!I certainly find this to ring true with my children!
All About Spelling is logical. Spelling concepts are taught in a logical, understandable order and each lesson builds on the last one. I love that– I’ve seen that the ‘building blocks’ concept WORKS–wonderfully! All About Spelling has NO Gaps– I know this is always a big concern for Homeschool Families.
All About Spelling includes all the necessary rules and tips to be a successful speller–you’re covered!

All About Spelling is mastery-based, so students do not move on until they have mastered a concept. All About Spelling has continual review. While the child learns new material, there is still continual review of previously-taught concepts. Again– that “Building Block” approach –which I LOVE.
All About Spelling is easy to follow, and offers clear direction! This means that children are taught what they need to know in a direct manner. Clear for the teaching parent and the student, a definite ingredient for success!

We reviewed All About Spelling Level 1 & Starter Kit.The starter kit includes: letter tiles, magnets for the back of the letter tiles, and the phonogram cd rom (a one time purchase for all the levels). The teachers manual is totally scripted and you get a student material packet. The student material packet includes flash cards and tokens, a progress chart and certificate of completion. (The flash cards are perforated sheets for easier set up).
In Level 1, the student learns:
- 32 phonograms
- how to hear the individual sounds in words
- how to represent sounds using phonograms and
- the spelling rules that govern the use of the phonograms.
Before each lesson, we reviewed the phonogram cards, sound cards, and key cards before diving in to the lesson, this review each time we used All About Spelling was a great foundation to build upon. We’ve found All About Spelling to be an excellent foundational program that utilizes the Orton Gillingham approach and which has worked well for the children. I also found that this phonetic approach also assists younger children in their reading too!
All About Spelling has been a blessing–and now I know what all those other homeschool parents were raving about! All About Spelling is a winner!

I was given a copy of All About Spelling Level 1 for my honest opinion of the program. We love it.
