Shabbat Candles - Cedars of Lebanon

I originally purchased these candles because I wanted to give the beeswax a try and missed the scent of cedar from my time in the Pacific Northwest. When they arrived, my children & I enjoyed the scent of the candles - my 3 year old said they smelled "Yummy, like HONEY!" Then I set them aside in my candle cabinet for a special occasion.

That time came when the mainland of Japan was hit with the 3/11/11 earthquake & subsequent tsunami and nuclear incident. While we were safe down south on Okinawa, we were thinking about and praying for our neighbors to the north, as well as our local friends who were hoping desperately from loved ones on Honshu. Each evening at sundown I let our cedar Shabbat candles and placed them in our front window. They were the perfect for providing focus for that time of prayer and reflection.

The scent of the beeswax and cedar was wonderful; the burn time was excellent and the candles burned evenly despite being in an area with a slight draft. We enjoyed them very much as a family and I enjoyed being able to use a product that was safe with family allergies rather than some cheap taper that would be of poor quality and would give off a chemical smell.
